PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or widely known as PUBG, a video online gaming platform where multiple players from different parts of the world can play along. In a short span of time the game has got so much fanfare that many brands would crave for. It became a huge hit, not among children only but people from all walks of life have a great liking for the game.

History

PUBG has been a great hit since its launch in 2017 for Microsoft windows and in 2018 for android and ios mobiles. The game had sold over 70 million copies by 2020, with PUBG Mobile having been downloaded over 600 million times.

Present Status

In June 2020, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has banned 118 more Chinese apps including one of the most popular mobile games PUBG Mobile. The government said that it has “decided to block 118 mobile apps since in view of the information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the state and public order.”

Area of Concern

It has been a matter of discussion since the time when PUBG got real appreciation and people around the world started spending long hours to play the game. Many people were supporting the ban of PUBG. A large number of parents complain that their children spend most of their precious time in playing the game rather than concentrating on studies. They have become so much addicted to the game that they don’t indulge in any physical activities and their health is taking a toll because of this. Several parents complain that their children have got eye problems; some complain that their children’s behavior has got changed and they don’t talk or interact much. They like to be in solace. Pubg has got some admirers also

It’s not like that PUBG has got only critics. PUBG has a huge fan following from all spheres of life who doesn’t want the game to be banned. For them, they are not killing the time; rather it is a great way of relaxation for them. Apart from that many PUBG players were earning a good chunk of money from streaming. The main source of income was ad revenue from youTube. Streamers were also getting money through YouTube gaming subscriptions.

Aftermath of Ban

As a matter of fact, the ban on PUBG has given a sigh of relief to many parents in India. Not only parents but many housewives have also given thumbs up to the government’s decision, because their husbands were spending a lot of time in playing PUBG rather than spending time with them.

But we also have to take a different perspective. There have been many other video games available on the internet apart from PUBG. These games have also been great hits among the users, but got obsolete by the time.

The responsibility of parents will not be limited to the ban of PUBG. They have to keep educating their children about the devils of playing video games for long hours. The time that children spend can make or mar their future. So they have to understand how to prioritize their lives. Schools and Colleges can also play a key role into this. They can arrange counseling sessions so that children can be de-motivated to spend a lot of time in playing video games, rather they can be motivated to indulge in physical activities. It is very important for us as a society to inculcate good habits among children.

Conclusion

Thus we can say that the ban on PUBG can be a remarkable step. It can be widely acclaimed by many and can be thoroughly criticized by some. But an individual has to be responsible and understand how to balance his or her life and the priorities.
